For men who suffer from depression and take antidepressants, the sexual side effects are inevitable. Depression is one of the potential causes of Erectile Dysfunction (ED), a condition in which a man fails to get or sustain an erection hard enough for sexual intercourse. Ironically, men who take medications (antidepressants) for depression are also vulnerable to ED. Nevertheless, a new study has shown that Sildenafil can help in such situations.
Researchers have found that Sildenafil can help depressed men, who take antidepressants, get back their lost erectile function and put the spice back in their love lives. A study published in a renowned journal has found that most men who took Sildenafil in addition to their already prescribed antidepressants have a great improvement in their erectile function as well as sexual health.
ED often occurs in about 30% to 70% of men who take the most commonly prescribed antidepressants called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs). The effects of SSRIs may include problems with libido or sexual drive, erection, and orgasm. These side effects of antidepressants can become so worrisome for men that they stop using them, resulting in aggravation or recurrence of depression.
Another study has found that approximately 55% of the men who took Sildenafil had experienced improved erectile function and overall sexual function compared to those who did not take the drug. Also, it helped men to get intense orgasms with an overall sexual satisfaction. However, the most common side effect experienced by them was a headache, which occurred in 40% of men who took Sildenafil.
Many physicians say that it is the first study to show that Sildenafil can help reduce the potential side effects of antidepressants. Quality of life was also significantly improved in men who took Sildenafil for over six weeks.
A combination of Sildenafil and an antidepressant
There is a medicine called Super P Force that contains Sildenafil and Dapoxetine (an antidepressant). This dual-acting medicine has been found to be effective in treating Erectile Dysfunction, as well as Premature Ejaculation. As we know, Sildenafil looks after boosting blood flow to the male organ for an erection. Dapoxetine is an SSRI that works on a neurotransmitter, serotonin, in order to delay ejaculation in men.
So, there is an evidence that men can use Sildenafil and SSRI together to improve their performance and lead a satisfactory love life. However, it is important to seek medical advice before using Sildenafil and Dapoxetine because they both are prescription drugs.
